Not at all. This course has been created with a focus on keeping your attention, it is not your average online course. It is not a pre-recorded webinar. Instead, it takes advantage of community resources and the internet. There are books to read, references, handouts, resources, and informative modules with practical activities to apply to your birth doula business.

You need access to the internet through a computer, laptop, tablet, or smartphone. You can collect other supplies such as a birth ball or massage tools as you progress. If you can’t find a free childbirth class to observe, you may need to pay a small fee to attend one in your area.

The program can be completed on your PC, Mac, iPad, or smartphone, anywhere with an internet connection. You can start on one device and continue on another.

The curriculum is designed so that you are connecting with local resources to gain hands-on training. Through your local childbirth classes and the readings, tutorials, and video instructions you will learn techniques. All doulas need to apply their knowledge through hands-on contact with women in labor over many births before they fully learn hands-on techniques, regardless of classroom or online training. This is a career that requires on-the-job training.

You will need to attend a complete childbirth class for several reasons. One is the in-person learning experience; another is being with pregnant women and couples, hearing their questions and answers, seeing the films, and doing some practice with them. But most valuably, attending a childbirth class is a business networking opportunity, and potentially meeting clients and getting referrals for future clients.

Check your local library, they may purchase the books or assist with inter-library loans. You can also ask other doulas or childbirth educators if you might borrow theirs. Try used book stores or look online for used books. The required reading list books are essential and valuable to your learning as well as a useful tool for informing parents.

We choose to respect your innate interest in maternal and fetal health by foregoing the requirement of continuing education units per year. Yes. Tiny Love Doulas are required to sign a commitment to operate within the TL Standards of Practice. Certification may be revoked if misconduct occurs. We take our professional standards seriously to protect both families and our graduates.

Once you complete the program you will always be a Tiny Love Certified Doula. We are continuously sharing new information, videos, and articles, keeping the curriculum fresh to give you the most relevant information. Certification is for life.

Yes. All students and alumni have access to our private Facebook Group, a growing community of Tiny Love students and professional doulas (and a midwife) who answer questions, provide encouragement, share tips and opportunities, and offer ongoing support. It is a wonderful community to be part of.

Many students begin networking and connecting with potential clients as they progress through the program. The curriculum includes business-building modules specifically designed to help you begin establishing your doula practice while you are still learning.
